A Thousand Sheep

As a Follow up from 1000 Sheep, we have launched the Young Curator's group at Salisbury Arts Centre and will spend the summer gathering pieces of the local woollen industry history and create a full size display for the Salisbury and Wiltshire Museum. I will be working every Tuesday and Wednesday 11.00am to 3.30pm , at the Salisbury Arts Centre,with my colleague artist Suzie Gutridge. The display will involve Graffiti Art, gathering of historical facts, trips to local sites and much more. IT's all free and can lead you to an Arts Award certificate. Dear All, We have had over 600 wonderful entries for the competition and would like to thank you all for your contribution. The panel met at the River Bourne Community Farm on the  16th of May ; We were delighted to welcome Kristina Stephenson ( children book writer and illustrator),  Sophie Aldous (T- Shirt designer), Anne-Marie Marshall (ceramic animals and animal life drawing) and Laurence Dube-Rushby ( site specific environmental  art) as the judges. The drawings were absolutely brilliant and full of imagination. It was very hard to select only two winners. We have looked for the design that would suit best the dynamic and fun of the art project as well as  the one colour printing method that we required. Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival  presents An Exhibition A Thousand  Sheep Exhibition 24 May - 30 June 2013 An installation made from 1,000 pieces of sheep fleece processed by artist Laurence Dubé-Rushby and volunteers through Laurence’s ongoing residency at River Bourne Community Farm. An installation made from 1,000 pieces of sheep fleece processed by artist Laurence Dubé-Rushby and volunteers through Laurence’s ongoing residency at River Bourne Community Farm. Laurence says: “The work aims at finding a new way to represent our local landscape, shaped by two basic needs, food and safety.” The madder plants used to dye the fleece once coloured army soldiers’ coats red, while the use of lambs’ wool symbolises the sacrifice of lives. Baa... Baa 1000 and   the River Bourne Community Farm Present a series of participatory art events Starting with a drawing competition "Please, draw me a sheep!”   Following from the success of Laurence Dub é -Rushby ’ s Installation , “ A Thousand Sheep ” , we invite primary and secondary school children from age 7 to 18, to take part in a drawing competition to design a logo for a follow-up program of sheep art participatory events, “ Baa...Baa...1000 ” . The making of the 1000 bundles of red dyed wool by more than 800 volunteers including children from the Clarendon Junior School, the Wellington Academy and the Godolphin school culminated in the first hanging of the work at Bridport Arts Centre during March 2013.
